Flame Red Bills at Paris Montparnasse

Just four out of 12 Bill 04 Tree planters, 1m in diameter for French Railways, SNCF.

 


Finished in textured Flame Red. These beautiful pots have been made using fire retardant resins and gels to achieve the M1 French fire retardant standard, similar to UK Class 0. All our planters can be similarly specified to be made in these materials giving specifiers unlimited design options for public areas where flame retardant products are essential. Despite having to make this more complex laminate, Livingreen managed to meet a tight deadline for customer Ambius France, delivering the completed job to France 13 working days after the order was placed.

 


 

The planters are now installed at the Paris station Montparnasse. Clearly they are taking no chances in ordering them in flame retardant materials as this is very same station made famous by the 1895 steam train crash. The Granville-Paris Express overran the platform within the station as it was trying to make up for lost time. It was travelling at such a high speed that it careered through a 60cm (2ft) thick wall, shot across a terrace, smashed out the station’s window and plummeted 10m (33ft) below onto the Place de Rennes; and killing an innocent woman below. Due to the negligence of the engine driver, the railway company paid for the woman’s funeral and provided a pension to look after her children. The picture though world famous with a reproduction in ‘real life’ as the frontspiece of a museum chain in Brazil – something for the football supporters perhaps!

Not Just Planters .. Terminal 5 Bespoke Sculptures

Livingreen Design were approached a few weeks ago to create a free standing T and 5  for use with the Christmas display outside of Heathrow’s Terminal 5 building. We were given a week to create the whole project and as this was an incredibly tight turnaround that the entire project was produced out of normal hours. The full team committed to the extra work and got straight on the project  The idea was passed by  us and our graphics assistant then mocked up how it would look as the display was required to be 2.5 metres tall and the clients were having difficulty picturing the concept.

 

Once they agreed to the look of the planters our CAD technician then drew up 3D models and technical drawings for production. The technician had to include a steel pole structure so that the planters wouldn't fall over in a high gust of wind, as glass fibre is incredibly lightweight. Each mould was then constructed by hand by our experienced workshop technicians and so that the planter’s construction could begin. After, 90 hours of hard and enduring labour we were then able to texture them in our standard Brilliant White finish. Once dry we then wrapped them with great care and it took 8 men to load them into a truck for delivery; our technical director then drove from Edinburgh all the way down to Heathrow to deliver them personally, on site at 10pm on a Sunday.
